Metal Structure Assembly Fitter

• A grade 3 metal structure assembly fitter must have initial vocational education and experience in the trade, a slinger-loader certificate, clearance to work with pneumatic and electric tools and electrical safety group 2 clearance.

You should know:

• the design of fixtures used in assembly;
• how to sharpen and finish fitter's tools;
• state standards for the materials used;
• weld symbols;
• methods of straightening complex metal structures in fixtures using templates and drawings;
• the system of tolerances and fits, accuracy grades and roughness parameters.

Knowledge of the basics of shot blasting is an advantage.
